Senator Rand Paul is joining the most right-wing of thoughts and calling for the repeal of the Espionage Act in which Donald Trump is being investigated for after he is understood to have stolen classified information from the White House. In a series of tweets, Paul openly called for repealing the WWI era law that makes it illegal to steal or somehow become in private possession of major classified information that could otherwise hurt America’s national security.
“The espionage act was abused from the beginning to jail dissenters of WWI,” tweeted the GOP Kentucky senator. “It is long past time to repeal this egregious affront to the 1st Amendment.” It’s worth noting that Donald Trump isn’t accused of being spy, but rather intentionally mishandling classified information that should’ve never left Washington.
