Venmo is removing the “global feed” that lets you see strangers payments

Citing privacy concerns following a Buzzfeed News and New York Times report the really annoying feature that allowed strangers to see who you pay is now gone. According to the company, after record interest in contactless payments and cash-sending apps new moves to protect user privacy are on the horizon. In the Buzzfeed report, reporters were pretty much able to put together an entire web of payments coming from President Biden and most of the first family.

Venmo moved quickly.

“As part of our ongoing efforts to continually evolve the Venmo platform, while staying true to the heart of the Venmo experience, we are removing the global feed,” the company said in a statement provided to Bloomberg. “This change allows customers to connect and share meaningful moments and experiences with the people who matter most.”
