It’ll be a suckish summer for most of New York City. According to the parks department, officials have made the unfortunate choice to close swathes of the most accessible beaches in the boroughs because of sharks. Yes that’s correct — against COVID and now monkeypox humans are now duking it out with sharks beneath us.

Those hit with closures include all beach and areas from Beach 9th Street to Beach 149th Street — some seven miles of oceanfront. They come amid a number of sightings across New York ‘s shores and an order from the Governor to beef up beach patrols to prevent shark attacks.
