The Lowdown

Amid growing international criticism and concerns over election validity,   Venezuelan dictator  Nicholas Maduro has vowed ‘full’ retaliation against his ‘opposition enemies’ for having challenged his rule.    According to claims made by Maduro, at least 2k people have been arbitrarily arrested by the government in response to demands that Maudro produce further election documents validating his claims of election victory.

He has so far refused to release additional election results.

On Sunday,  the European Union  became the latest international body to come out  entirely against Maduro concerned about the safety and well being of so many people wrongfully arrested.

Edmundo González, won the election.

“The European Union calls on Venezuelan authorities to put an end to arbitrary detentions, repression and violent rhetoric against members of the opposition and civil society, and to release all political prisoners,” the EU’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, said in a statement.
