Trump ‘s drama involving classified documents from the The White House apparently in fact contained classified information despite his insinuations otherwise. According to the National Archives, those files contained numerous pieces of classified information that otherwise should’ve remained in possession of the White House under the records act and that of the National Archives.
None of them actually did until the Archives threatened to go to Congress and the Department of Justice over the matter according to reports published on Friday. The revelations appear to have come from Archivist David Ferriero to the House Oversight Committee in a letter that made the stunning revelations. At the time of the initial discovery, the team found more than 15 boxes all of which partially or wholly contained national security information and classified documents.
NARA has identified items marked as classified national security information within the boxes,” Ferriero wrote, responding to a question from the House. “Because NARA identified classified information in the boxes, NARA staff has been in communication with the Department of Justice.” The Archives told the government on Friday the following according to CNN
“The White House Counsel’s Office indicated that they would address the matter,” Ferriero wrote. “After the end of the Trump Administration, NARA learned that additional paper records that had been torn up by former President Trump were included in the records transferred to us. Although White House staff during the Trump Administration recovered and taped together some of the torn-up records, a number of other torn-up records that were transferred had not been reconstructed by the White House.”
