The unusual comments from the Pennsylvania Democrat have sparked renewed discussions about mental health. Amid his own mental struggles, Fetterman says he is being forced to show up for work.

The Lowdown

In an interview with the New York Times, the Pennsylvania Democrat went on the offensive against attacks across party lines regarding his work ethic and mental health concerns. Fetterman was previously hospitalized for six weeks throughout an extensive bout with depression.

The Times notes that Fetterman is attempting to paint a picture of his struggles being weaponized by people in the media. His absences, as a whole, have sparked renewed discussions on whether or not Fetterman is still mentally fit for the job.

Concerns have been arising for some time about Fetterman but especially have ramped up in recent weeks. Missing important meetings, and staffers jumping ship have all contributed to the concerns that Fetterman is isolated. According to the same Times article, last year Fetterman missed more appointments and related than all of two Senators to make matters worse.
