Prosecutors in the ongoing efforts to spring the Menendez brothers from prison have filed motions according to several reports to delay said hearings. The delay comes amid efforts to obtain part of the risk assessments on the duo previously ordered by California ‘s Gov Newsom. The assessments in part aim to determine whether or not the brother’s have been rehabilitated in prison.
This is the latest delay in a lengthy process chalked full of disputes between prosecutors and the brothers’ lawyers. On Thursday, LA superior court judge Michael Jesic said that the discussions over said assessments will be formally considered on 9 May.
As a pair they were sentenced in 1996 to life in prison without the possibility of parole for viciously murdering their father Jose Menendez and their mother Kitty Menendez in their Beverly Hills residence in 1989 they were 18 and 21 at the time.
