Elon Musk’s hopes of taking on the government over a non-disclosure demand have fizzled out.
The Lowdown
According to reports, Musk’s case against Jack Smith in regards to the secret order to seize Donald Trump’s Twitter data has now failed. On Monday, the Supreme Court declined to take up Musk’s appeal leaving a lower court order in place.
What happened
Early on in the cases against Donald Trump, secret court orders were issued against Twitter at the time. Those orders demanded that Twitter fork over Trump’s data but they were not to mention it to the former President.
SCOTUS’s refusal to take the case means the government can continue to use secretive orders to demand social media companies comply in this manner.
