A new report by a research group at the University of Minnesota has people talking. In it, it is disclosed how it is now understood that the school has a far darker past than originally thought.

Such a dark past that those who embarked on the mission to investigate the school’s history with Native Americans were often overcome with emotion. The research group uncovered the fact that the school essentially helped along the genocide of innocent natives.

The report reveals the schools founders knowingly committed “committed genocide and ethnic cleansing of Indigenous peoples for financial gain, using the institution as a shell corporation through which to launder lands and resources,” CBS reports.
