Fascinating letter written by George Washington fetches $50,000 at auction

A previously unknown letter believed to have been written by George Washington in 1787 has resurfaced.

In 1787, George Washington apparently had financial troubles of his own that weren’t quite known to anyone until practically now.

On Sunday, an auction house revealed that they had come into possession of a handwritten letter by Washington hard up for straight cash. In a fascinating note, the letter is understood to have been written two months before Washington agreed to chair the Constitutional Convention.

Rab revealed the discovery of the 1787 letter “unknown to scholars” and held in a private collection in West Virginia on Sunday.
