Yoel Roth Twitter ‘s former Head of Safety is now a man in hiding. Following Elon Musk ‘s tizzy of misinformation over the weekend, Roth has had to go into hiding amid a barrage of right-threat death threats against him and his family for his role as Twitter ‘s Head of Safety. These emerging threats came as Elon Musk disbanded the company ‘s Safety Council all together in favor of well nothing.

“As Twitter moves into a new phase, we are re-evaluating how best to bring external insights into our product and policy development work. As part of this process, we have decided that the Trust and Safety Council is not the best structure to do this,” read an email to members of the council signed simply, “Twitter.”

The threats against Roth surround a dissertation he did for his PhD that involved betrothed gay dating app Grindr. In the thesis, Roth argued that apps like Grindr need to do a better job for teens and young people who eventually find a way to circumvent the platform and join anyway. Grindr doesn’t have a legitimate age verification system and therefore anyone can join so long as they attest’ (even if untrue) to being at least 18 years of age. Roth was not actually advocating for young use of the app despite right-wing claims which are often consistently made even though baseless in nature. QAnon followers and company generally have a tendency to make baseless accusations of paedophilia towards others as a form of an attack often without little or any credible evidence.
