Residents in the area are suffering without water this evening following dangerous floods that hit much of the area. The massive flood has caused valves from the city ‘s main water system to malfunction. It is unclear when they may be fixed to once again provide water to the community. The same water system also provides water to about 30,000 folks and homes that live along the surrounding areas.

“Until it is fixed, it means we do not have reliable running water at scale,” Gov. Tate Reeves (R) said at a Monday press conference, per the Mississippi Free Press. “It means the city cannot produce enough water to fight fires, to reliably flush toilets, and to meet other critical needs.”

Residents are advised to pay attention to local officials where possible as the local government will begin passing out water bottles and such as the National Guard has been called.
