America is flirting with the idea of taxing you per mile when you drive your car

Tucked deep within the massive infrastructure bill laid out today in Washington is a point some may have missed. According to the pages of the legislation, a $125M pilot program essentially meant to tax Americans per mile driven made its way into the bill.

This means that transpo secretary Pete Buttieg now has the ability to aware grants and monies to entities that help create the programs. Drivers in all 50 states including the likes of Puerto Rico and so on would be lawfully required to be registered in the program per text from the bill.

Buttieg notably claimed in March that such would not happen although it appears the administration has gone back on its word. The present bill in its trillion dollar capacity is headed to the House of Representatives for a full vote.
