Against the backdrop of a historic season, The Bachelor temporarily is looking for a new host. Over the weekend, Chris Harrison announced that he is stepping away from the show for a bit against claims that he ignored obvious racism from a current contestant. According to Buzzfeed News, much of the reported racist allegations surround the contestant identified as Rachael Kirkconnell.

This is where it gets ugly. In a previously published interview with Extra, Harrison appeared to defend Kirkconnell ‘s actions. As it stands she allegedly went to an antebellum themed party and apparently has a penchant for the confederate flag.

“These girls got dressed up and went to a party and had a great time and they were 18 years old.”

“We all need to have a little grace, a little understanding, a little compassion. I’ve seen some stuff online, again this ‘judge jury executioner’ thing where people are just tearing this girl’s life apart and diving into her parents and her parents’ voting record. It’s unbelievably alarming to watch this,” he said.
