Under Hong Kong ‘s draconian law — a Chinese media tycoon might actually find himself spending his last days behind bars. According to local media reports, Jimmy Lai, 73, may soon find out that he’s been jailed for life if China’s draconian leaders get their way. Hong Kong, earlier this year tried and successfully managed to charge Lai under the city ‘s widely panned national security law.

His charges come as China seeks to crack down on dissent.

That law apparently (from what we understand) prevents anyone (even those outside of the grounds of China) from badmouthing or the country’s officials. The Chinese government reportedly maintains that Lai used Apple Daily to transpire with foreign officials in an effort to allegedly overthrow the authoritarian regime. None of these charges have ever been proven.
