A shocking report out Monday evidently confirmed that alike many other influencers and internet folks Alexis Sharkey too fell into the trap of promising scams. According to multiple reports (and at least one Guardian article), the company that Sharkey worked closely with is actually nothing more than a glamorous pyramid scheme.

Identified as Monat — Monat apparently isn’t real in any sense of the term or possibility. After a little internet research ourselves, er, we discovered that Monat acording to their website sells a variant of cosmetic and haircare products. The problem with those products goes back several years and has resulted in several lawsuits against the company.

The company has famously been accused of selling shitty products that don’t actually work; have caused baldness, burning hair folicles, patches of hair falling out and more. Of course in the usual fashion of companies of such kind the company has vehemently denied the accusations in the past. It’s worth noting that a while back they were forced to pay the state of Florida more than $80k after being ordered to issue mass refunds to dozens of customers.

Sharkey had apparently made it to director status within the company but may have been aware that she was part of a glamorous scam.

“An inherent design and/or manufacturing defect in Monat hair care products causes significant hair loss and scalp irritation to many consumers,” one of the suits alleged.
