Social media sites like Twitter and Facebook are both gearing up for a pretty big day today. According to reports, both networks confirmed on Monday evening that additional warning labels and the like would be slapped on anyone influential (more than 100k followers it looks like or with very high engagement rates.)
Those warning labels appear to be the kind that will stop the spread of false claims of victory before votes are formally counted entirely. The move(s) come as the networks are well aware that conspiracy theorists and bad actors likely will be gearing up to spread as much false information as they possibly can throughout the day. Trump, per Axios, has already himself amongst his confidants made it clear that he will prematurely declare victory one way or another.
Both networks, particularly Twitter, will restrict people from liking or retweeting messages that fall into arrears with moderators.
The tweet in question that helped spark further restrictions is as follows.
“The Supreme Court decision on voting in Pennsylvania is a VERY dangerous one,” Trump wrote in posts on both social media platforms.
“It will allow rampant and unchecked cheating and will undermine our entire systems of laws. It will also induce violence in the streets. Something must be done!”
