Looks like asylum seekers at the border will now have to fight their case from their host countries if they’re rejected at the border. On Thursday, a 7-2 SCOTUS ruling decided that asylum seekers aren’t entitled to fight their case in front of a judge essentially if they don’t make it past the border. The ruling appears to apply to those who see their initial asylum applications rejected.
It appears this particular tidbit from the New York Times summed the ruling up perfectly.
The case, which concerns the fundamental question of who is entitled to seek habeas corpus, will affect thousands of asylum seekers,” per the New York Times.
