New York City practically for the first time in well ever will no longer have 24/7 subway service. According to Gov. Cuomo, the service will be suspended from roughly 12am or so until 5am with nobody allowed on the train except for service workers. Per the governors’ office, this appears to be an attempt to further clean the trains as New York continues to grapple with the Coronavirus.
Earlier this week, Cuomo faced. backlash after photographs and videos emerged from within the MTA of homeless people living in huge numbers across the subway system. That, er, coupled with rising subway crimes have created a disaster below New York City.
“You never had a challenge of disinfecting every train every 24 hours,” said Cuomo in an Albany press briefing. “It can best be done by stopping train service from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. every night.”
The move has never been done before during an extended period of time. It doesn’t have an end date as of this time.
